A warrant of arrest will soon be released against a politician who was implicated in the shooting to death of a physician more than two weeks ago, a police officer bared.
This was revealed by Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) Deputy Director for Administration Surki Sereñas to the Gold star Daily during an interview this week.
Sereñas said they are currently waiting for a judge to issue the warrant of arrest.
He said that as soon as the arrest warrant is already in their hands, they will immediately serve the warrant to the said politician.
Dr. Raul Winston Andutan, a surgeon and hospital director of Jesuit-owned Maria Reyna Hospital, was ambushed on December 2 by three armed men at Barangay Nazareth.
The following day all the suspects were arrested by the raiding team of Cocpo in Balingoan town. The “middle man” who contacted the suspects is still at-large up to this posting
Sereñas, however, refused to name the said politician but gave a clue saying, that the latter is a prominent political figure in Misamis Oriental.
Sereñas did not mention whether the said politician is currently holding an elective office in the province.
The Cocpo assistant head gave another hint as to the identity of the suspect politician. He said the latter is known for his involvement in illegal gambling whether in the numbers game or cockfighting. Sereñas did not elaborate further.
Sereñas said the suspect’s implication to the crime stemmed from the confession of Joel Nacua, the one who admitted shooting Andutan.
The receipt, Sereñas said, shows that the said politician sent money to one of the suspects amounting to P1,800.
“If the said amount is for the (operating) expenses of the suspects who killed Andutan then, it was just too small. We do not know yet the reason why he gave such (an) amount to one of the suspects. It could be that they are just friends and it has nothing to do with the incident. Anyway, the accused will have his time to defend himself during court proceedings,” Sereñas said.
