THE ongoing pandemic has caused a lot of us to struggle with stress and anxiety, adding on the pressure of looking for alternative ways to earn a living and adjusting to the world's “new normal.”
But despite all, there are people, too, on the other side of the spectrum, that are game-changers. They creatively take advantage of these trying times to continue giving inspiration and making things count for more than the bad stuff.
One of these game-changers is Midnasty.
Being an independent artist, Midnasty has been in the music scene since 2001. They are one of the seven artists who won the MTV Emerge in 2009. In 2011, the group performed as front acts during the Black Eyed Peas concert in Manila. They also performed in the Araneta Coliseum to open the MYX Awards and got featured as the June Artist of Month of Myx in 2017.
Through all these years, Midnasty has been performing all over the Philippines especially in the Visayas and Mindanao, empowering and representing Bisaya music, culture, and the arts. With songs like Lame, Ilongga, and Mystakes, Midnasty has become a household name for the young, the young-at-heart. and the world's bravest.
From their BRAVE album in 2014 that has remained relevant up until now and the crisis that's been going on, the group figured it is about time to release a new song: the first single of their upcoming album. “This is actually a four-song project before we release our next album,” NikKho said. When asked what makes this release special, he continued, “It's our comeback release as a trio after a year tungod sa mga nahitabo namu before.”
According to the group’s manager, Mark James Kho (Murray), the title of their new song is Budi. It is a famous slang in the card game Chinese Poker, also known as Piat Piat. Budi is when the hand dealt is unable to form a strong combination (a pair, a trio, a straight, a flush, and other higher combos) in its top and middle arrangements. “This song is very timely as it tackles about seeing the silver lining in every situation even when faced with difficulties. Especially when faced with difficulties,” Makoy added.
“Every time we work, we always look for a new sound na amu mahatag sa amung audience, to push Bisaya music to another level,” NikKho said. “And our aim is to always inspire others to keep moving forward despite our difficulties in life and to follow your dreams.”
Now that new music and an album are confirmed and on the works, many fans are excited and are sharing their anticipation for Midnasty’s comeback. We’re definitely excited about it, too! This is something we should all get ready for. (Micka Angela Victoria)
