ILIGAN City ― In his State of Iligan City Address, Mayor Frederick W. Siao said among other things, that the city “is taking back the primary responsibility of taking care of the proper garbage disposal.”
Dressed in barong, the speech was held last Friday afternoon at the city public plaza and it lasted for more than one hour.
On the garbage disposal concerns, he added, the city would get 80 percent of the responsibility while the remaining 20 will be by the barangays themselves, along with the people living there.
There would be “proper maintenance” of garbage equipment, obviously taking a dig at the previous administration had two of its garbage personnel died on the way to Bonbonon, the garbage disposal area, due to “unmaintained” garbage trucks and which incident was downplayed by the then administration of Mayor Celso G. Regencia.
He also talked about the peace and order situation and was lavish in his praise to the uniformed men especially during the city’s fiesta and tourism month during last month's celebration and of course, the people themselves.
Siao also reiterated the weekly cleaning to be made by the barangay people, which he said led to the reduced dengue cases in the city.
He cited the weekend night markets, from Friday evening up to Saturday and Sundays which evidently is helping to some extent, the economic recovery of the city after two years of lockdowns due to the pandemic.
Agriculture too was talked about in his speech, enjoining the city folks, especially those living in the hinterlands to be very focused on it as the city is supporting them too extensively in that aspect, such as giving seeds for the products they are producing and the equipment they would need, even giving them carabaos if they so need them.
His style would be “consultative” even as he cited the importance of e-transactions as much as possible.
There would also be “free WiFi” in 15 or so public areas in the city. The city would also be “transparent” in its dealings, he added.
