Gingoog City — Mayor Erick G. Cañosa has strongly condemned the incident that happened at a private cemetery here about a body of a dead infant found separated from his coffin last week.
In a phone interview, Cañosa said he first knew of the incident through a post on Facebook.
He ordered City Administrator Elvin Restituto, the chief of police, and the head of the City Social Welfare and Development to conduct an investigation regarding the incident.
“Akong kusganon nga pag kundena ang maong panghitabo ug akong gipaningkamotan nga mahatagan kini sa igong pagtagad ang maog panghitabo,” Cañosa vowed.
As of press time, the investigation is being led by Col.Ariel Philip I. Pontillas, Gingoog City police director.
According to a report, the remains of the dead infant was discovered separately from the coffin. It was found later placed under a Talisay tree, meters away inside the cemetery.
Other witnesses said the infant died on Feb. 24 and the body baby was placed in their home in Sitio Ipil in barangay Anakan here for the wake before it was supposedly buriend on March 1.
