REPRESENTATIVE Rodante Marcoleta and Senator Imee Marcos voiced their backing for Vice President Sara Duterte during separate visits to Cagayan de Oro on Saturday, addressing growing speculation about a potential impeachment bid against Duterte in Congress.
Speaking at the 3rd Summit of Consumers, Marketing, Producers, and Logistics (CMPL) at the Aquilino Q. Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center, Marcos reaffirmed her support for Duterte despite political tensions.
“Fair warning to those trying to disrupt the unity of the country — 32 million people voted for VP Sara. They must listen to the voice of the people,” said Marcos, referencing the significant voter base that elected Duterte.
Marcos acknowledged friction within the administration, noting that some sectors are frustrated with Duterte.
However, she emphasized her ties with the Vice President, citing Duterte’s role in allowing former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
“It was a great help that President Duterte allowed my father to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani,” she said.
Marcoleta, meanwhile, expressed his support for Duterte during a press conference where he also announced his intention to run for a Senate seat in the May 2025 elections. When asked about his potential political alignment, he indicated his preference for an administration grounded in “honest and rightful governance.”
Marcoleta, known for his vocal stance in Congress, criticized the current state of the Marcos-Duterte political alliance, lamenting that the once-strong Uniteam has become fractured.
“The unity we once had has been torn apart,” he said.
Both political figures called for respect for Duterte’s position and underscored the importance of preserving political traditions.
