MARCELO Geocallo, a prolific writer using the "Bisaya" medium died June 17, of a lingering illness. He was 83.

He was a writer of consequence, with several awards accorded to him. like the Palanca Awards and Bathalad Mindanao. Short stories, novels, and poetry in the said medium were his forte.

An active member of Lubas Sa Dagang Bisaya (Ludabi). He was elected to various leading positions in said organizations, among them, ‘Pamuno’ (president), Iligan-Lanao Norte Chapter, and both Ludabo and Bathalad Mindanao. The said chapters are presently headed by Atty. Leo M. Zaragoza, overall ‘Pamuno’ for Mindanao and Terry Mecarsos, Iligan-Lanao Norte Chapter.

Geocallo was born on the island of Cebu but early on, his family transferred to Mindanao, at Linamon, Lanao del Norte where he lived until his death.

According to Zaragoza, when Geocallo was still in the throes of death and asked why he exerted his best to still cling to life, his answer was, “Life is beautiful.”

Interment is scheduled for June 26 at the Linamon Cemetery.
