A manhunt is underway following a shooting incident on Monday that left a van driver and a passenger dead, and a woman injured.
Police Capt. Promelia Orejas, officer in charge of the Talisayan police station, said yesterday, September 11, that the suspect, a passenger, boarded the van at the Agora terminal in Cagayan de Oro.
The van was bound for Balingoan, a town before Talisayan.
Orejas said empty bullet casings have been sent to the crime laboratory to identify the firearm used.
Initial investigation suggests a commotion occurred before the shooting.
“Naay commotion ayha gipusil kay naka plastar man sang sakyanan,” the police chief said, indicating the vehicle was parked during the incident.
Police have ruled out robbery as a motive, as all money and cellphones belonging to the victims were found at the scene.
Investigators also learned the driver, Betonio Labadan, 65, had a hearing problem.
“Posible pud nga wala sya nakadungog nga naay Balingoan kay bungol man daw to,” Orejas said, suggesting the driver may not have heard the passenger’s request to get off at Balingoan.
Orejas urged any potential witnesses to come forward with information and report to the nearest police station. She also called for the gunman to surrender.
“Sa gunman kung naa man gani kay konsensya pero kung wala man pangitaon gyud ka namo, dili namo ni hunungan, paningkamotan namo para ma solve ni nga kaso,” she said.
