DIGOS City ― A mango trader was gunned down early in this morning along Lapulapu Superhighway, Purok-9A, Barangay Aplaya, of this city.
In a spot report from Digos police station, Lt. Colonel Hamlet Lerios identified the victim as Janilo Alferes Mondejar, 46, a resident of the same place.
Witnesses told investigators Mondejar was just sitting on a bench of a sari-sari store near his house when two still unidentified individuals arrived onboard a motorcycle wherein one of them pulled a handgun and fired towards the victim without any provocation.
Mondejar was fatally hit on the left chest causing his instantaneous death, the police said.
Crime investigators recovered one empty shell, and one fired slug of what they believed was from a caliber .45 pistol used by the perpetrators.
Apparently, all male attackers quickly fled through the General Santos-Davao City national highway.
A separate report claimed that the gunmen were riding a white Honda XRM motorcycle, wherein both are wearing a helmet and jackets.
The identity of the culprits and the motive behind the incident is yet to be established by the authorities.
It was the second shooting incident that transpired in Digos City in just a span of six days.
On April 5, a 29-year-old ambulant fish vendor was also shot at close range while traveling along Mac Arthur Highway in Digos City en route to his residence in Barangay Bato, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on board his top-down tricycle.
The culprits fired multiple shots toward the victim who sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Scene of the Crime Operatives retrieved six empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol ammunition at the crime scene.
The police regional office in a press briefing told local cops to take immediate action against the rising cases of criminal activities in Davao del Sur.
