A man has been killed the morning of Sunday at Barangay Canitoan, this city.
Police identified the victim as one Michael Ceboco estimated to be in his middle 30s and also a resident of said barangay.
According to Joseph Roluna, a security guard at Korean Grocery at Canitoan, the incident occurred at around 7: 30 in the morning and it was near the establishment where he was guarding which was also near a wet market.
He said he saw the victim attempting to shoot at a man who was standing near the said wet market, with a .45 caliber pistol.
But the weapon failed to fire and the said target whom the police could still not identify as of press time, went to a nearby Bongo vehicle, got some weapon there inside, and lost no time in firing at the man who seconds earlier had tried to shoot him but failed.
The victim who was already in the act of fleeing away from the area on board a motorcycle was hit, the guard said, and then fell off from his vehicle.
It was learned that the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head and to the back of the body. Terrified people then saw the scene unfold before they closed the doors of their houses even as vendors tried to flee from the scene as the shots still kept coming.
Later, the man who did the shooting sped away in his car, the guard related and then curious onlookers flocked to the scene.
At around 11:00 the Scene of the Crime Operatives arrived and the victim’s body was taken to a nearby funeral home, the guard said.
The victim was said to be a resident of Canitoan and wore gray pants and a blue shirt with a muscular build and had in his body bracelets and rings on his fingers which the onlookers theorized could be “amulets” to ward off some “bad luck” the guard said.
