By BEN SERRANO Correspondent BUTUAN City--Police arrested a councilor and three of his companions at the Surigao city hall on Thursday morning. The group were fully armed. Supt. Agosto Daskeo, director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), identified the suspects of Lowel Joy Orzales Mesias, Junriel Acobo Carpez, Roger Baldomar Moster and Cherry Calubag Edillor. Mesias is a councilor in Barangay Lipata, Surigao City, Police said Mesias is suspected to be the leader of a crime group. Lipata, his barangay, is where one of the biggest sea port in Caraga, the Lipata Wharf, is located. Police seized from the suspects four caliber 45 pistols with six magazines, and 29 bullets. Authorities said members of the CIDG, Regional Public Safety Battalion, and Surigao City police arrested Mesias and his group after receiving information from concerned citizens that an armed group was on its way to the Surigao city hall. But relatives of Mesias said the barangay councilor merely went to city hall because he was invited to attend a meeting on the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign. The suspects were placed under the custody of the CIDG regional office at Camp Rafael Rodriguez in Libertad in Butuan City.
