HEAVY rains yesterday, Oct. 26, triggered a landslide and extensive flooding in Dansolihon and several other villages here.
The landslide occurred around 2 pm in Dansolihon, with local resident Rose Pescador Villote capturing video of the event.
The footage showed heavy brown water, rocks, mud and tree branches cascading down the mountains in the Mangalay area.
The landslide struck two areas in the village: Purok 2 and Mangalay.
Villote, who was traveling to Wao with her fiancé when the incident happened, posted on social media that the road was impassable.
"Unexpected gyud na panghitabo dili na mi kalahos kay nagbabag ang mga bato sa dalan," she wrote.
She later confirmed she was safe, stating that she and her fiancé returned home after being rescued by her brother-in-law.
The landslide also temporarily closed the Lumbia-Uguiban bypass road.
As of today, Oct. 27, the City Information Office (CIO) confirmed the road is passable but advised motorists to take extra precautions due to the still-softened soil.
Meanwhile, other villages, including Bulua and Iponan, experienced heavy flooding.
Reports from IFM-RMN Dxcc indicated that over 700 residents evacuated from Purok 1, 3, and 4 in Iponan after their houses were submerged.
In Canitoan, more than 100 people also evacuated due to high water but had returned home today.
The CIO released a statement on the situation. "As of this moment, all roads have been cleared and are now passable," the statement read.
"However, motorists are advised to refrain from passing through the area for the meantime due to unfavorable weather conditions and softened ground caused by continuous heavy rainfall.”
