SPECIAL Assistant to the President Antonio F. Lagdameo Jr. on Tuesday congratulated Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament Member and Senior Minister Mohammad Yacob on his election as the new Speaker of the Bangsamoro Parliament.
Yacob’s election on Oct. 21 follows the passing of former Speaker Atty. Pangalian Balindong.
In a statement, Lagdameo commended Yacob’s unopposed election, calling it “a reflection of his unwavering commitment and dedication to public service.”
“Speaker Yacob’s leadership is a product of consistent performance, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to the Bangsamoro people,” Lagdameo said. “His election signifies the Parliament’s trust in his capacity to guide the institution with integrity and wisdom.”
Appointed to the 80-member BTA Parliament in 2019 and reappointed in 2022, Yacob holds a degree in Shariah Law from the International Islamic University in Saudi Arabia and a Doctor of Philosophy from Cotabato State University.
Before joining the BTA, he served as executive director of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front-led Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) for nine years.
He later became Senior Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm).
Lagdameo said he is confident Yacob’s experience will “further elevate the quality of legislative deliberations in the Bangsamoro Parliament” and promote the passage of laws that strengthen governance and development in the region.
He also praised the BTA Parliament for what he described as “a prudent and unifying choice of leadership.”
“The selection of Speaker Yacob reflects the collective vision of the Bangsamoro for effective and principled governance,” Lagdameo said.
