AFTER months of mounting public outrage over uncollected trash, Cagayan de Oro Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy today, Oct. 13, vowed to take the reins himself, declaring he will personally lead the city’s garbage collection efforts to end the waste management mess.
“Ako na ang mo-command sa paghakot sa basura. Ako na ang mangamot ug muhatag og kasuguan nga kinahanglan atong tutukan ang paghakot sa basura,” Uy said during the weekly flag-raising ceremony at City Hall.
The move comes after continued complaints over uncollected garbage despite the city’s new contractor, Standard Systems.
Uy said that over the weekend, the city attempted to collect garbage across Barangay Carmen, but the task could not be completed in one day.
He urged the contractor to assign more workers per truck, noting that two people per unit are not enough to handle the workload.

“Kung duha lang ka tao ka palador ipauban sa truck nila, dili mahuman kay mubatig kakapoy ang katawhan nga nagpatuman sa basura,” Uy said.
The mayor said he would meet with City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office Chief Armen Cuenca and Councilor Eric Salcedo to discuss solutions.
He vowed there would be changes following the meeting as he personally oversees the cleanup drive.
Uy also directed the City Engineer’s Office to deploy heavy equipment, such as loaders, to clear garbage piles in problem areas.
The mayor appealed for patience and understanding from residents as the city works to resolve the issue.
“Mangayo ko ug pagsabot,” Uy said.
