CAN peace be achieved without BBL? Why not? I already have written twice about John Perrine to emphasize peace can be achieved without BBL and why. This time, it’s this article about Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) projects through Bangsamoro Development Authority (BDA) as crafted by the MILF, projects that have something to do with agriculture, fisheries, etc. It is heartwarming to note that some Muslim Filipinos like BDA Executive Director Windel Diancalan can still be optimistic in the event that the BBL will not be passed. “It can still be a material reference of the national agencies in implementing projects identified in the (Jica) plan. So, in the end, it will still be useful.” Such positive thinking allays fears of atrocities to resume for as long as government shows some sincerity by bringing the government to the remotest area of the so-called Bangsamoro lands. If the MILF could also show some sincerity the way they treated Perrine, then we would have greatly solved the problem of peace and co-existence. It is important to stress the point that not all Muslim Filipinos are in favor of BBL, not all want to be a part of the Bangsamoro. Let’s be careful with the term “the right to self-determination.” Let it loose, and you’ll never get it back without a fight. •• This is a follow-up to the MOA signing between Mother Theresa Foundation Inc. and the Misamis Oriental Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (MOFCCCII) on June 27, 2015. MOFCCCII representatives who were there were immediate past president Lucio Tan, president Greg Marten Lao, incoming president Adelfa Sia, 3rd VP Antonio Uy, Chinese secretary Ricky Go, auditor Jessie Co, PRO Tomas Sia, committee on sports vice chair Emerson Chiu, past presidents Jose Un Jr., Johhny Lim and Robert Ching. From Mother Theresa Foundation were Norma Noble, president; Avelino Sabella, vice president; Filomena Hojas, secretary/treasurer; Luz Serna, auditor, and Suhji Abecia, social worker. The program started with brief a introduction of the dignitaries from both organizations, a little presentation from the children of around 70, and snacks with the kids. A tour around the building and compound revealed a dilapidated kitchen, dining area and toilet facilities that badly need repair. Water supply is also a problem that should be addressed. A vacant lot has a potential for gardening. The Foundation seems to have found a sponsor to undertake and assist it on this aspect. A health center said to be donated by the old Chinese Chamber led by Lim Bon Hai also needs repair. Johnny Lim, incumbent president of the Lim Association, has been tasked to bring the matter to the body. The son-in-law of Mrs. Noble, Jose Saniel, was instrumental in bringing MOFCCCII to the Mother Theresa Foundation. Saniel is a very good friend of Lao. The culmination of the program was the ground-breaking of the planned new facilities as envisioned by the parties. It was a happy day for the children and to all.
