GINGOOG City — Senator Imee Marcos on Tuesday claimed that five high-ranking government officials are facing cases before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs’ probe into alleged injustices against former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Speaking before barangay captains of Gingoog City at the Penthouse of the City Hall Building on May 6, Marcos said she has filed complaints against the following officials: Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, PNP-CIDG Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, and Special Envoy for Transnational Crimes Markus Lacanilao.

While she did not disclose specific charges, Marcos described the accused as "masyadong bakakon" (too deceitful).

“Right is right, and wrong is wrong. What they did to the elderly and ailing former president was wrong,” she said.

The senator was in Gingoog for a meeting of barangay leaders organized by Mayor Erick Cañosa and Gov. Peter Unabia ahead of the May 12 elections. Marcos used the opportunity to seek support for her reelection bid and to update local leaders on recent Senate developments.

She also informed barangay officials about a proposed change to the term lengths for local and national elected officials. The barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan terms may be extended from three to four years, and congressional terms to six years. The Senate is expected to discuss these changes after June.

Marcos said she intends to file a Senate bill that would offer benefits to former barangay officials and push for the inclusion of current officials in the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

Mayors Rico Taray of Talisayan and Charlie Buhisan of Magsaysay, along with ABC President and City Councilor Winfred Militante and Provincial Board Member Robert de Lara, pledged their support to Marcos during the event.

Gov. Unabia and Mayor Cañosa — both seeking reelection under the administration coalition — called on barangay officials to back Marcos, who has been endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte as part of PDP-Laban’s senatorial slate.
