AT least three young Dabawenyos will stand pat for Mindanao in the 2022 National Rapid Chess Team Qualifying Tournament starting tomorrow, February 10 in Metro Manila.

Arena Grandmaster Rowelyn Joy Acedo and National Master Aglipay 8 Oberio, who are members of the Davao Chess Wizards competing for this year’s PCAP, will try their luck in the qualifying event for the South East Asian Games alongside another Davao City pride International Master John Marvin Miciano.

“We wish them good luck and hope for positive results. Continue to fly high Davao Eagles,” said lawyer Jong Guevarra Jr, part-owner of the Davao Chess Wizards in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines.

Two years ago, IM Miciano topped the national selection in rapid chess gained him an entry in the Asian Junior Chess Championship Zone 3.3.

In that competition organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, Miciano scored 11 wins, three draws, and a lone defeat in 15 games for 12.5 points en route to becoming Davao City’s 2019 male athlete of the year.
