ILIGAN City – Many residents here have voiced frustration over recent political developments at both local and national levels.
Asterio ‘Terry’ Mecarsos, president of the Lubas Sa Dagang Bisaya (Ludabi) Iligan City-Lanao Norte Chapter, said he was “shocked” to learn of the 90-day suspension of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte Mayor Rommel Arnado.
Arnado, recognized for his achievements in organic farming, has received various local and international awards.
Last year, he hosted the International Organic Congress, promoting the “From Arms to Farms” initiative, which helped transform the once conflict-stricken municipality into a model for organic agriculture.
“This is sad,” Mecarsos said, adding that he was also dismayed by the Feb. 5 impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte by the House of Representatives.
The impeachment articles were transmitted to the Senate the same day.
Messages of support for Duterte have appeared at the city’s public plaza, with many residents calling the process “unfair” and hoping she will be acquitted.
“She will certainly come out victorious,” Mecarsos said.
