ILIGAN City Mayor Frederic W. Siao announced this week that P166 million of the P242 million allocated for Typhoon Sendong recovery remains available and will be used to build housing for survivors.
The funds, originally set to be returned to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, were retained after the city government appealed to the national government, citing the continued need for permanent housing.
With the assistance of the National Housing Authority, the city plans to construct 362 housing units in Barangays Dalipuga and Upper Hinaplanon.
Each unit will cost P160,000. The city has until Dec. 31, 2025, to complete the project.
Typhoon Sendong struck Iligan on Dec. 17, 2011, killing over 1,000 people and leaving thousands homeless. Many survivors remain without permanent shelter.
