Iligan City — Eight houses here were burned down to the ground Monday evening.
City fire marshal Butch Baulete said the fire occurred 7:27 pm in Purok de Oro, Zone 3, Poblacion, this city. The fire was declared under control at 9:30 pm.
Aside from the fire trucks from the Central Fire station in Poblacion, other fire trucks from Saray, Tubod, and Sta. Filomena also assisted in putting it under control.
Authorities said the fire started at the residence of one Valentin Kwan Angay and it spread to eight others as they were all made of light materials.
The fire department said the fire rendered nine families homeless and pegged the damage at Pl00,000 with nobody reported dead or injured.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, in the early morning yesterday, the top portion of the chimney of the Victoria Bakery at Aguinaldo street caught on fire.
The fire department said this was immediately put under control as it had not spread but remained in the chimney.
Councilor Noli Pardillo then told reporters that some people made him aware of it but the owner of the bakery was not even aware of it so he and several others got their attention and the owner.
He said the owner promised to fix the problem with its chimney.
