It seems celebrations of independence days, company anniversaries, and similar events are part of the regular schedule of events that we have to prepare for each year. But it's beyond that.
These celebrations must be enjoyed, seen, and felt not only from the colors of buntings, graphics of posters, or the smell of foods prepared for everyone. These celebrations are best appreciated if we see beyond those external decorations.
We are independent because of the sacrifices of those who came ahead of us. We are independent as a nation because of the blood, sweat, and tears of those who had the courage to stand up for the rest of their countrymen. We are independent because our ancestors believed in us as a people.
In the same token, company anniversaries are best celebrated by acknowledging the sacrifices of those who came ahead of the present breed of employees. Those who made the company what it is at the time of the celebration.
But sadly, some people tend to forget those sacrifices. Some others tend to be indifferent to the outcome of their actions. In short, we tend to live our independence as if we earned it through a silver platter.
The same goes true, maybe, in the way, a current breed of employees enjoy the results of the sacrifices of those who came ahead of them. Most may simply tend to savor the sweat of those who built their company into such an excellent provider.
We all know that from the past we learn valuable lessons which we can use to chart the future. But oftentimes we tend to forget to look back. Could it be arrogance or blindly believing in our capabilities no matter how limited they are?
But sulk we should not. As Mayor Moreno has aptly said, "Time will come when people will no longer remember us, but what is important is, during our time we have our best!"
That's how real it could get.
