BANKS have dress codes, best exemplified by their uniform. Bank clients don’t! They come as they please, except perhaps when guards suspect something suspicious underneath what they wear or in what they carry with them. Depositors choose their banks but banks cannot and should not choose their depositors. Anyone who enters the bank should be a welcome client, big or small, rich or poor, and should be treated properly and without discrimination. I recently gave this admonition in its simplest form: do not judge a book by its cover. It is a mistake that is an exception than a rule. The fact that it continues to happen is admittedly not the mistake of the bank but a misjudgment on the part of its employees. An individual may look shabby but that individual is still a client and is there to transact business. Respect is a must and that should be taught to all bank employees, including guards. No, I didn’t experience that but a friend did. •• My children pay P1,000 a month to Globe for its Internet services. Whether it’s 1MB or whatever that I wouldn’t know. But my son wanted to upgrade the speed to 3MB at P1,500 a month. It looks cheap, right? Triple the speed at 50% more fee. I have two hopes. One, I hope the poor services we are experiencing with our Internet is not deliberate so we will be forced to avail of their new offer. Two, I hope it won’t be that service would be fantastic at first and lousy after a few months. I had that experience with our Internet connection at our office before when we accepted the offer. When it was time to complain, they gave you all the excuses in the world. The text capital of the world is the slowest when it comes to Internet service. That’s monopoly for you. •• The only reason I can see why food supplements sell is because people are afraid to die, to look ugly, and to grow old fast, more so when they become rich. Advertising, be it in tri-media or social media, is awash with claims on the good and bad sides of certain food that have been our daily fares day in day out. Nothing is really bad about it except that, when we believe so much and so many, we get confused and lose track of which one really helped us, health wise. Dr. Lee may be a fictitious name and that includes his supposed arguments. But the real message is really that no food is meant to do harm. It’s just that people should eat anything edible but moderately. Any glutton would likely suffer obesity. Don’t blame that to sugar, cholesterol, and what have you. Different types of blood have their own suitable food requirements, so they say. Type Os need to eat meat daily or they will feel the lack of physical strength. I followed my wife’s diet of fish and vegetables. I am type O. I don’t feel that lack of strength. In short, we don’t have to believe everything we read. If you stop eating, you stop living. Enjoy life. Eat to your heart’s desire, but moderately.
