ILIGAN City--About half of the city has been left without tap water since yesterday.
Engr. Christine Milagros Orbe, head of the Iligan City Waterworks System (ICWS), said a major pipe in Barangay Abaga burst at around 12 noon yesterday.
Orbe said the water district had to shut down the source altogether so that Barangay Suarez would not get entirely flooded. Suarez is near Abaga.
The source supplies the areas from Tubod to Sta. Felomona.
Since the ICWS does not have a 24-inch diameter pipe for the Ababa source, the water district would need to temporarily tap another source with a smaller pipe -- that of Ditucalan.
The Abaga source, Orbe said, will take time to get repaired because, aside from the unavailability of the replacement part, the area still has to be cleared. (Nora Sorino)
