MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Peter M. Unabia wants the revenue collections from the quarry operations in the province to be raised to P150 million by next year.
In a phone interview, Provincial Planning and Development officer Stanley Uriarte confirmed that the capitol is only getting P4 million in revenue from quarry operations in the province.
However, Uriarte said as a projection the provincial capitol will be collecting tax revenue of P114 million based on the proposed increase of fees and other charges.
“Pero kanang P150 million nga gusto sa gobernador posibli kana nga makuha labi na kung motaas ang volume ug mosaka sab ang mga penalties,” said Uriarte.
On Monday afternoon, the Committee on Ways and Means, chaired by Provincial Board Member Dexter B. Yasay, held a public hearing on the proposed amendments on various taxes (Tax on Sand, Gravel, and other Quarry Resources) of Provincial Ordinance No. 1404-2017.
Quarry operators and representatives from the extraction business attended the public hearing presided over by Committee Vice Chairman and Provincial Board Member Wayne Militante.
As observed, the quarry operators and players agreed with the proposed changes in various fees and charges.
Although, the quarry operators asked the committee to “strictly” implement the provincial ordinance against illegal quarrying operators in the province.
“Okay ra mi sa mga increase tanan pero hinaot matutukan nila ang mga illegal kay alkansi kaayo mi. Kami nagbayad sa sakto unya kami ra gihapon diskuntinto sa kita,” said one of the quarry operator who asked not to be named.
