IN the second week of operation, one of the three Special Action Teams (SATs) reported that they have not apprehended a single violator of parking regulations at Osmen̈a Street at the time they patrolled the area. I asked why.
The reply was an encouraging “kay gapamadlong na ang mga business establishments sa ga double park or ga parking sa travel lane.”
This is encouraging because at less than two weeks of operation, we have etched in the minds of those who became aware of what motorists should remember.
Then there was this post on FB saying “hawan ang Carmen” which compliments the work that the SATs were doing, a far cry from the usual criticisms that the RTA receives through the social media.
And, a friend, an RTA critic sent me a private message asking how he can help source luminous gloves for use by traffic aides so they will be kept safe when manning the streets at night, when I informed him those items are in the budgets for next year yet.
And still another netizen sent a note that an intersection was orderly because the traffic aides were doing their job, including guiding pedestrians to use the designated crosswalks.
Further, there are those who send encouraging messages, including suggestions on what needs to be done to ease the flow of traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, in our streets.
I am mentioning these to thank those who appreciate the little gains that we are having. They are the ones who see the entire piece of white bond paper rather than the little black dot it has somewhere.
Though it may take some time, gradually we can make it.
