Gingoog City — This city’s mayor has urged the Peace and Order Council and the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council to set aside funds for the training of barangay volunteers on crime prevention and disaster response.
At the joint meeting of the POC and Cadac on Wednesday, Mayor Erick G. Cañosa said he wants all the volunteers in the city’s villages to be useful and that they should be trained in ways they can help the police in the event of a crime occurring in their areas.
He said barangay volunteers are a big help to the local police in solving the criminality problems especially on illegal drugs.
“Dili man gyud siguro ma solbad tanan pero maminusan ang mga kriminalidad,” he said
Cañosa asked the city police through Gingoog Chief of Police Col. Philip Ariel Pontillas to conduct seminars and pieces of training to village volunteers who will be active in the kind of how to provide information that guides police in pursuit of criminals.
The volunteers should also be equipped with knowledge of laws, he said
“Kinahanhglan gayod sa atong mga barangay volunteers mahibalo ug masayod sa mga balaod nga maoy ilang sundon,” he added.
He also wants the barangay volunteers to learn how to help as a first responders in their respective places in case of emergencies caused by natural calamities.
In another development, the two police substations will be established very soon in the city as Pontillas presented his police sub-office building to rise in Barangay San Luis in the western part of the city and the other in Barangay Talisay to serve the eastern part of Gingoog City.
City Councilor Robert de Lara, ABC president, said the two police substations are all important to the city.
“Dili na gyud kaayo lisud sa atong mga katawhan modangop sa atong kapulisan panahon sa ilang pagkinahanglan tungod kay sa dili madugay ma establisar na ang maong mga police sub stations,” de Lara said.
