CAGAYAN de Oro clergy Fr. Vic Arellano is now back as president of the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Club after the local chess assembly last Friday at a private resort in Barangay Bulua, this city.

The 60-year-old Arellano, who first served the club from 2014-2017 took the responsibility from outgoing president Cleto ‘Bong’ Vasquez after electing the board of directors that included Vasquez, Ade Pagente, lawyer Conrad Mahinay, Benoni Wabe, Mario Arroyo, Judge Rene Arroyo, and retired police officer Rolando Gomonit.

Past presidents Ceasar Causin and Shirov as well as CMOCA Higalas team owner Ariel Potot were bestowed upon the power as honorary members.

With Fr. Arellano sworn to serve for the year 2022-2023 are vice president, lawyer Vincent Cromwell Seriña, secretary Ismar Irenick R. Estrella, treasurer Rene Goopio, and auditor Jaime Joshua A Frias II.

In his parting words, Vasquez acknowledged Frias as the one responsible for bridging a connection to businessman and philanthropist Ariel Potot that led to Cagayan de Oro’s eventual participation in the 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines All-Filipino Conference.

“Without his (Frias) effort, maglisod kita’g apil sa PCAP kay walay kitay dako nga kantidad para maka avail sa prangkisa for our team’s official entry,” Vasquez said.

For his comeback trail on top of CMOCA’s leadership, Fr. Arellano has these words to say for the club’s topmost priorities and agenda this year:

“As Mr. Estrella's proposal for the discussions and consideration of the Board are the following: 1) SEC Registration and its subsequent periodic compliances; 2) BIR Registration apil na ana ang BIR Certification of Registration, Authority to Print, og Official Receipts, og subsequent periodic compliances as legally required; 3)mag formulate tag plans for the calendar year 2022 apil na ana ang pag conduct og mini chess tournaments for open executive categories; 4) membership sa NCFP for CMOCA kung applicable; 5) to have an updated list of chess players in CdeO and Misamis Oriental for our initial membership subject to the consent of the players themselves; 6) CMOCA ID, its expiry date, policies on membership privileges, and stationary sa CMOCA; and 7) formulation, discussion, evaluation, finalization, adoption, and implementation of needed policies, rules, and regulations.”
