EIGHT houses, including a two-story apartment, were razed by fire on a rainy Thursday afternoon in Purok 2 Lapak in Barangay Cabug in Medina, Misamis Oriental.
Medina town Fire Marshall SF03 Brenda S. Nangkil said no one was injured in the incident.
The fire broke out at around 1:20 pm and it was declared fire out after an hour and 29 minutes, she said.
Nangkil said the burnt houses were mostly made out of light building materials with six totally razed houses and two partially burnt houses.
Town Mayor Donato Chan has already instructed personnel of the Municipal Social Work and Development (MSWD) to assist the fire survivors.
Eduardo Sayson said he and his wife were asleep when the fire broke out.
“Maayo nalang kay grabe ang singgit sa among mga silingan nag pukaw kanamo maoy hinungdan nakamata mi nga naay sunog,” he said.
Eduardo and his wife are both working the night shift at a coconut processing plant in town.
Ariel Anghay, the town administrator, said the survivors are currently evacuated at the Cabug-covered court.
Anghay added that nine families have been affected by the afternoon fire.
Social workers provided the fire survivors with sleeping kits (mosquito nets, blankets, mats pillows, and other items), Anghay said adding that the fire survivors were also given kitchen kits and food packs.
Nangkil said fire structural damage has been estimated at P900,000.
