A fire engulfed an abandoned two-story house in Zone 5, Upper Bulua, Cagayan de Oro, late last night, April 3, leaving behind a scene of destruction and an estimated P1.2 million in damages.

The fire, which erupted in the late evening, quickly engulfed the structure, formerly a boarding house, prompting a swift response from local fire authorities.

Reports indicate that residents first noticed the fire around 9:30 pm.

Initial investigations said the fire originated in the bathroom of the unoccupied building.

The fire spread rapidly. This shows that empty buildings can catch fire easily and are dangerous to other houses and the people nearby.

Firefighters fought the big fire for almost an hour. They worked hard to stop it and keep it from burning the houses next door.

The fire was finally declared out at 10:23 pm. After the fire, the building was badly damaged. Luckily, nobody got hurt.

Fire Inspector Herman Arfabre stated that the owner of the gutted property is identified only as ‘Mr. Sia.’

Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
