IF a series of road accidents happening around Northern Mindanao is any indication, then motorists should be wary and be extra careful in the opening month of 2022.
While a community of Claveria in Misamis Oriental is still mourning the deaths of their 12 town mates to a Wednesday morning mishap in Balingasag road, another farming couple met their tragic end in the accident-prone highway in Don Carlos, Bukidnon on Friday noon.
This, after a Nissan “Tubo-Tubo” truck, plowed through at least four vehicles, but hardly hit the one driven by Wenefredo Agustin, who along with his wife Wendelin, was smashed inside beyond recognition, thus resulting in their untimely demise.
The Agustins, who were both 50-year-old, came from Purok 2 of the neighboring Kadingilan municipality.
The driver of the huge 10-wheeler truck loaded with freshly-harvested sugarcane stalks, locally known as “tubo,” was identified as Florentino Enad of Don Carlos.
Enad told traffic investigators that he lost control of the heavy-duty truck when its brakes allegedly exploded along the four-lane highway of barangay Sinangguyan in said town.
“Ubay-ubay na sab gyod ang nadisgrasya dihang dapita sa Sinangguyan since two years ago kay luag hawan man gud nga highway gapakusog labi na ang dagko nga truck,” one motorela driver Larry Lafuente told Gold Star Daily.
In an interview over Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, PMajor Sevillano said Enad will be facing charges of double homicide and damage to properties, while being temporarily detained at Don Carlos Police Station.
