IF Paris has its romantic site and sight, the Eiffel Tower, the Orevoni Compound has our own version, the Eyesore Tower. It is located in the erstwhile peaceful, quiet, and serene community that was painstakingly and gradually established by my late wife Juliet, and her siblings.
This compound has become the home of many relatives by consanguinity and by an affinity for decades now. While intra-family bickerings sometimes make our lives exciting, the relationship between and among families was generally harmonious. The compound was the home of family reunions for several years.
Before my late wife and our family established our home here, her late elder sister Vicky and her family first settled in this former farm lot of their late father, Nong Zaro. Then she was followed by another sister Sabel and her hubby and brood.
A brother and his family soon followed suit. It must have been the beginning of a long-term plan of establishing the now-infamous Eyesore Tower.
The Eyesore Tower now stands tall among and replaces a relaxing sight of, the synchronized sway of lush green trees that I have enjoyed for many years from my terrace. It won't be long from now when it will forever drive away from my early morning friends and their concertos.
I know my in-laws and our children who have chosen to settle in this neighborhood are not happy about this Eyesore Tower. I know that for a fact because we talked about it.
Maybe the clanks, clinks, and all those annoying sounds will be gone until maintenance time comes. But it will certainly be replaced by something we cannot see or hear, the radiofrequency radiation (RFR) that will gradually eat into our system.
Until now, the unsure government offices have not categorically declared that "there is conclusive evidence that RFR will not be harmful to humans." There is a whale of a difference from what they have always declared that there is no conclusive evidence that RFR is harmful to humans. Simply because the former needs serious studies, the latter does not.
Any health-related effects that would greet us and those who will survive us will be a matter that may happen years from now.
That's the Eyesore Tower in a nutshell.
