By KC FERNANDEZ and LITO RULONA Correspondents EMPLOYEES of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have called for justice over the shooting death of one of their executives in Lapasan on Friday. The victim Ramon Racjec Escudero II of Villa Trinitas, Bugo, was the external relations officer for the Sustainable Livelihood Project of the DSWD. Escudero, 48, was driving a Tamaraw FX on Gusa highway, and was on his way home from work when he was attacked by gunmen on two motorcycles without license plates. Oliver Inodeo, one of DSWD 10’s information officers, said the department condemns Escudero’s shooting death. “We demand for justice... The death of Ramon Escudero is a great loss to the DSWD. We mourn his death.” Inodeo said whoever was behind the killing must have been motivated by “a strong ill will towards him because they returned and made sure he was dead.” Police said at least four men were responsible for the gun attack. SPO2 Jerome Diolanto of the Agora police said investigators were focusing on Escudero’s work as a primary angle because the victim’s wife said the executive was “strict and transparent” on the implementation of DSWD’s livelihood programs. Diolanto said the shooting was well-planned, and could have been perpetrated by hired guns armed with caliber .45 pistols. Police were examining in a crime laboratory empty shells found at the crime scene. Police said the victim was driving the van near the traffic light in Gusa when he was ambushed by the suspects who were positioned on both sides. A guard, Eric Pacana, tried to help but the suspects fired shots at him, and he was hit in the right hand. A witness said Escudero was still able to drive and sought help but the gunmen came and finished him off by shooting him to the back. Escudero died later at the Capitol University Medical Center. He succumbed to four gunshot wounds.
