PUBLIC and private colleges and universities in Northern Mindanao sent their National Service Training Program coordinators and faculty representatives for a three-day conference here in the city on Wednesday.
The NSTP Educators Association in Region-10 (Near-10) conducted its Regional Assembly of NSTP Educators at the Grand Caprice Hotel, Limketkai Center in downtown Cagayan de Oro.
The conference will end on Friday.
As the country is still in a pandemic, the challenges of how to conduct NSTP classes and activities are reflected in this year’s assembly theme “Near-10: Sustaining Nation Building Initiatives in Hybrid Learning.”
Climate justice advocacy group Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) was invited to present about climate change and emergency, represented by Erwin Puhawan of PMCJ’s Energy Team.
“The partnership between us and the schools is very important and strategic in educating about climate justice,” Puhawan said. “This gives the students a vehicle, an opportunity, to act on the climate emergency we are facing,” he added.
“NSTP has mandated modules one of which is on the Environment. We also have a Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Module,” said Dennise Gonzales, Near-10 president.
“That is why we invited the PMCJ to participate in the discussion of the topic because we are advocating for climate justice,” she added.
