IT was not the usual morning. My avian friends were not around to sing my favorite chirps and tweets. Neither did I see them on the terrace that morning. Instead, the pitter-patter of the morning rain flowed like music as the raindrops hit objects of varying forms and sizes.
The cold morning breeze added zest to the erstwhile gloomy mornings caused by the Eyesore Tower. At that very moment, the negative vibes seem to have faded fast as I savored the kick of my early morning coffee.
But sadly, that early morning rain also brought in anxiety as people in our neighborhood figuratively scampered to exit the compound lest the flooding at Villarin street would prevent them from reporting to work on time.
Fortunately, it was not the case. The rain slowly trickled until it came to a complete stop. The traces of that rainy early morning were the moistened leaves and the last drops from the waterspouts. And of course the watery, short of being slippery, passageways leading to Villarin.
The cold morning also contributed to my austerity. I did not have to turn on my air conditioner. The backup electric fan had to take over to circulate the air inside the room as I wrote this piece.
Probably with this kind of weather, my electric bill will take a breather. As we know, the price of electricity in this franchise area remains to be one of the highest in Mindanao. It is a relief though that people like Engr. Dave Tauli are keeping an eye on the propriety of electric power transactions and prices.
At any rate, let’s just enjoy an early morning rain.
