By Ben Serrano, Correspondent BUTUAN City — An early morning fire on Saturday burned down 37 houses in Barangay Baan, this city. Authorities said the fire started on Friday late evening. Fire Officer 1 Benjie Escobido of the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection estimated the damages to be at about P400 thousand. Escobido said they fire spread faster than usual because the houses were made of light wood material. The community was also densely populated, Escobido added. Based on their initial investigation, Escobido said the fire may have started in the house of Segundino Borda who uses candles to light up his house because he could not afford to pay for electricity. Escobido said the fire started at around 11:30 pm on Friday. He added they declared fire out at past 1:30 am on Saturday.
