IN line with their mandate of fellowship and service to others, they came forward to heed a call for help, and they came bearing gifts and a helping hand to those in need.
In an activity called “Kalingang Agila Para Kay Batang Taneo,” the Grand CdeO Eagles Club visited the family of John and Stephanie Taneo, parents of four-year-old Yevgeny, who is afflicted with hydrocephalus at Sitio Impaumbo, Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City on March 12 at 10 in the morning.
John, who used to be the family’s breadwinner doing odd jobs, had to give up his work so he can take care full time of their child since he has grown and become too heavy a burden for his wife to take care of alone. It is now Stephanie who works at a nearby store to make ends meet. It is a daily struggle for the family to make ends meet as well as take care of a child with special needs.
The club has a program to seek out those in the community that may need assistance in any form and for which they can provide for. The club then found out about the child's condition from one of its members who visited the family and verify the child’s condition.
“It is our main objective to help the less fortunate people in the community since we are bound with our guiding principle which is ‘Service Through Strong Brotherhood’,” Richard C. Hallasgo, club president said.
“That is why if we are given a chance to help others, we are very much willing to help as much as we can because this is our commitment to ourselves, to the community, and above all to our God,” he added.
They gifted the family with rice, noodles, milk, soap, and a pre-loved baby stroller. They also handed the family an initial unspecified amount of cash donation.
They assessed the child’s condition with the help of a medically-trained member of the Grand CdeO Lady Eagles Cub, and they scheduled the child to be brought to the hospital for a medical checkup and laboratory tests, and they also committed to assisting in the daily medicinal maintenance that the child needs.
