ILIGAN City ― The Department of Interior and Local Government says that they could only “remind” supposed “violators.”
This was the gist of the statement yesterday of DILG city director Edward Bhagwani in the wake of reports that Tambacan Barangay Chair Jimmy Sale made a speech on stage when the team of Leni Robredo made a rally at the city public plaza morning of Tuesday last week February 22 even as barangay Tipanoy too was seen using the city’s garbage trucks carrying tarps of this city’s candidates under city mayor Celso G Regencia.
Actions on the matter regarding these violations fall on the Commission on Elections, Bhagwani said and there must be a formal complaint, he added.
Sale, though, said that his making a speech on stage was because he’s “an active member of the LGBTQ community being an auditor too of said community” and “not as chair of Tambacan.”
Under the Omnibus Election Code, barangay officials are prohibited from doing election-related activities.
