MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur--- More than two hundred leaders of the tribal communities here voted for their new representative to the Sangguniang Bayan on Tuesday.
Fulong Bernardo Sanggay garnered 143 votes against the 87 votes of Bae Imelda Signapan, who was the former Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) to the municipal council.
Sanggay, who is the present Municipal Tribal chieftain, will take his oath of office before Mayor Arthur Davin any time soon so he could already fill the seat vacated by Signapan.
The election of the new IPMR is long overdue since Signapan’s first term already ended on November 22, 2014.
It took months for the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) provincial office to resolve some issues hounding the incumbency of Signapan which could be one of the factors that resulted in her defeat. Pna
