The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA RFO)-10, led by Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, organized a Simple Nutrient Addition Program (SNAP) Hydroponics Training in Cagayan de Oro City.
The training aimed to promote urban agriculture practices and ensure a stable food supply.
The activity was facilitated by the department's High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) and was attended by 30 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory Training.
Agriculturist II Ronald Ian Camaddo provided the participants with an overview of SNAP hydroponics, a vegetable production system that uses mineral nutrient solutions in water.
Camaddo highlighted the sustainability and low-maintenance requirements of the SNAP hydroponics system, even in urban settings.
He demonstrated the procedure using lettuce seeds.
Meanwhile, Senior Jail Officer 3 Aldous S. Ybañez expressed their intent to continue implementing the hydroponics system in their area.
He emphasized the benefits of the training for their PDLs, who could earn from it and use the knowledge when they are released. (DA-10/PIA-10)
