POLICE authorities who manned a checkpoint in Bukidnon arrested a live-in couple while riding a stolen motorcycle Wednesday at 8 pm.
Police Col. Jun Mark Lagare, provincial director of the said province, identified the suspects as Aldrin Sario, 23, unemployed, and a resident of Zone 3, Barangay Mabuhay, Baungon, Bukidnon.
While his live-in partner was also identified as Lyca Abdullah, 27, unemployed, and a resident of Barangay Macanhan, Cagayan de Oro City.
A suspect’s companion was able to evade arrest and is now the subject of a police manhunt. He was identified as a certain Rommel Atubang of Barangay Basak Talakag, Bukidnon.
Lagare said that prior to the arrest, police personnel assigned at Manolo Fortich Municipal Police Station had received a call from a barangay resident informing them that his motorcycle, a Rusi KRY150, colored Green, was stolen by three unidentified persons while being parked outside his house located at Barangay Maluko, Manolo Fortich.
Immediately, Lagare said, Manolo police led by Police Lt. Awar Pendatun, together with Highway Patrol Group (HPG) conducted a simultaneous checkpoint from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm along Sayre highway at Barangay Tankulan, Manolo Fortich.
While in the area, authorities had observed incoming two motorcycles whose drivers did not wear helmets. But one of the suspects upon seeing the police, suddenly made a u-turn, purposely to evade arrest.
Only the motorcyle driven by Sario with Abdullah in the passenger seat was flagged down by the manning policemen.
When asked by the police, Sario failed to present pertinent papers to show ownership of the motorcycle.
Upon verification, it was found out that the motorcycle they were riding was also stolen. A police blotter at Lumbia police station shows that on January 3, a concerned citizen reported to them that unidentified suspects took his motorcycle.
The victim was able to identify the recovered unit as his own while at Manolo Fortich police headquarters.
Seized from the arrested suspects was a motorcycle Honda XRM 125, color black and white combination, with plate no. 8958 KC.
The suspects are now under custody by Manolo police.
Lagare expressed his compliment to the responding police personnel for a job well done and relentless effort to place the person under police custody.
He also encouraged the public to be vigilant in their surroundings at all times and report immediately anyone acting in a suspicious manner, or if threatened in any way.
He also stated that cooperation and support of the community is the key to making Bukidnon a safe place to live and do business.
