CONSUMER in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental are complaining of poor service from the Misamis Oriental II Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco II), citing frequent outages and high electricity bills.

Some consumers have taken to social media to describe the cooperative’s service as “high rate, low service.”

The cooperative is reportedly oversupplied with electricity, which some believe is the reason for the rapidly increasing bills.

The issues have been brought to the attention of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Misamis Oriental, which has summoned Moresco II management several times.

However, critics say these meetings have not produced any solutions.

Board Member Rommel Maslog, vice chairman of the Committee on Energy, Communication and Transportation, urged consumers to file a formal complaint with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

“A formal complaint is needed so that the Sangguniang has a basis to convene Moresco II to find a solution to resolve the problems and investigate the issues,” Maslog said.

Consumers are also calling for the implementation of net metering, a system that credits solar power users for the electricity they add to the grid.

Under Republic Act No. 9513, or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, net metering can reduce or even eliminate electric bills for solar system users.

Ret. Police Col. Gregie Pimentel, a solar system user in Gingoog City, said that other electric distrbutors, such as Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Inc in Cagayan de Oro and Moresco I in Laguindingan, have already implemented net metering.

Pimentel said there are about 26 individuals and businesses using solar systems in Gingoog City who could benefit from the program.
