A community-led cleanup cleared sections of Kolambog Creek and Bitan-ag Creek near Ma. Reyna Hospital in Barangay 36, as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to reduce flooding and improve waterways.
The initiative was organized by the Hapsay Suba Team, led by team head Patrick Gabutina, in collaboration with Barangay Chairpersons Roa and Ogismer, who provided a dump truck for waste transport.
Jejors Construction also supported the operation by lending heavy equipment to speed up the process.
Following the cleanup, officials reported improved water flow in the affected creeks.
Gabutina reminded residents that the positive effects of the operation depend on sustained community involvement, especially in proper waste disposal.
The activity was conducted under the Hapsay Suba Program, a city government initiative supported by the administration of Mayor Rolando Uy.
The program aims to clear and maintain waterways across the city through the cooperation of local leaders, volunteers, and private partners.
City officials encouraged residents to dispose of trash properly and take part in similar initiatives to help prevent future flooding.
