ILIGAN City ― When the movie about the holocaust was shown here in this part of the world, was called "Schindler's List," I heard somebody say, " It was a black and white let-down."
Meaning, the movie wasn't good because it was not colored? So, color does make something interesting or exciting? I think though that not all colored matters make it interesting. Or exciting. As in, not all that glitters is gold.
Take this garbage or "basura" concern all over the country. But I am particularly seeing this through colored eyes. In this city. I mean, not necessarily my own eyes but in the eyes of the "blamers" and the "blamees".
Said Cong. Celso G. Regencia in his "favorite" radio station, the "red" radio station. : There was no basura concern during my time as mayor. Because there was no garbage problem then. Unlike this time when you can see every place here full of garbage. But I am not the mayor now. Do they mean that I still have to take care of the garbage in this city?
More or less, that was the gist of his statement when interviewed by his favorite interviewer Jun Lino Bacus.
Not to be "out blamed," the "blue" radio station, with the "blue" host in Boy Decena said in a radio program, "Target Crossline". "Hmm, there was no 'basura' problem then?"
I half expected him to say, "You tell that to the Marines." But he did not. Yet the gist of his statement was that when Regencia was the mayor, the garbage problem was already "very serious." To the point that it had caught the attention of national media. In the "Reporter's Notebook," of a national media, one Maki Pulido pointed out how serious the problem is! To the point that some leachate dropped into the waters of the river below the garbage disposal transforming the color of the water there into black.
To recall, the earlier administration of Lawrence Ll. Cruz had a garbage disposal there at Bonbonon Barangay which was not an open dump site. Some machines were aimed to grind the garbage there that was already segregated from the other types of garbage although, besides those machines there, there was also in one area a dump site for those who could not be accommodated in those machines. The machines only churned only some types of garbage. Meaning, those segregated ones that were okay for these machines.
It was then narrated by the "blue" team with Decena as its radio host, that under CGR, those machines quickly got choked by all the types of garbage that were dumped there "carelessly."
However, it was reported then that CGR's admin had first attempted to dump the garbage at Tipanoy after the dump site at Santiago Barangay was ordered closed by the DENR. But the clan owning the land there, the Tecson family, some of them, were not happy,
The alternative? Dump them at Bonbonon. And the machines there were unhappy, as they got choked. Thereby destroying these machines.
Dr. Chonilo Ruiz, a former councilor of the Cruz administration and the proponent of these machines that initially churned the garbage, said that "the machines there maybe could still be rehabilitated."
Mayor Frederick W. Siao, the leader of the "blue" team though, is trying hard to maintain his composure. Despite the demolition job done by the "red" team under CGR. Siao says a short-term solution has to be done. Even if a long-term solution is to be made too.
I see the "red" team though of CGR is trying to make a return of the comeback. And so far, they had some success. As in about 80 percent of the "red" candidates in the recent barangay elections winning. Didn't they say, "One small victory leads to other victories?"
Although the team did not win the ABC presidency here. Mainly, I think, because they were "laggards." Or foot draggers. Because they could not deliver the copy of the TRO in time. And earlier, they, even if the opposing might have been outnumbered, could not show up on time, so that a committee could be established.
Yet, they say, it is useless to cry over spilled milk.
But wait, the "crying" makes me remember that song of "Every afternoon three o'clock, I read your letter, ahay, sa may bintana, ahay, sabay ang luha…" I think that was from Yoyoy.
Ah, I think this has now become some kind of garbage talk, although not necessarily colored.
