THE traffic in Cogon Market has improved significantly, thanks to the reported bold move made by the night market committee’s chairman. The Mayor himself should be congratulated for approving the move recommended by the committee, led by its lawyer co-chairman.
The Cogon night market has been running for how many years, three? And the traffic congestion in that area has been happening under the noses of the supposed traffic managers who could have come up with that simple solution of opening Osmeña Street! But they did not. Of what use are those six consultants and the failed traffic department head to the Mayor and the city?
Mayor Uy may have to review his traffic management strategies that do not seem to jibe with the competence of those manning the RTA operations, including its consultants, who have failed to add value to the city's traffic management.
The publicly known reshuffling that City Hall is undergoing has seemingly overlooked considering traffic management strategies. The Mayor has all the discretion to reshuffle his lieutenants so they will be aligned to his agenda in running the city, but it seems he has overlooked that vital cog in his team, the traffic managers.
I could only hope the Cogon Market traffic solution will last and be maintained without politics succumbing to the pressures of the electorate.
Congratulations are due to all who devised the solution.
