LOCAL supporters of senatorial candidate Alan Peter Cayetano sponsored a bike caravan yesterday. The rally point was in the rotunda, Laguindingan, and the destination was Opol.
Gregory Arao from Opol, Cambia MTB Team, organized the bikers from Cagayan de Oro City to Gitagum town upon the request of the local campaigners of the senator.
“Ila ko gi contact kay kabalo man sila nga naa koy mga kaila sa biking community,” Arao said.
The bike action was in coordination with the local governments of Laguindingan, Alubijid, El Salvador, and Opol. They sent their local disaster risk reduction management teams as well as traffic management personnel and ambulances to ensure a safe and steady flow of the bikers as they traversed the Maharlika Highway.
Agustine Raphael Uy, a Cayetano campaign volunteer from Cagayan de Oro City said that Cayetano wants an eco-friendly campaign, without using motorcades, thus this event.
“There are 14 (local governments) participating across the country, as this number is to signify his ballot number,” Uy said.
Around an estimated 300 participants participated in the event. At the muster point, jerseys, tube masks, and sleeves were handed to participants as giveaways. Snacks consisting of bananas and hard-boiled eggs, known natural protein and potassium sources, were given to participants prior to the start of biking.
At the Opol municipal gym, the ride culminated with a short program, with a raffle of bike accessories as prizes, followed by lunch provided by the organizers.
