DIGOS City ― A kagawad of Barangay San Roque who tried to pacify a heated altercation of a couple ended up dead after the husband who was reportedly drunk shot him with a handgun on Sunday night.
Lt/Colonel Hamlet Lerios, Digos City acting police chief identified the victim as Rey Emecino Colita, 47, a resident of Purok-6, Barangay San Roque, Digos City.
The police also identified the suspect as Jayradee Busadre Frande, 35, a carpenter, and a resident of Relocation, Barangay Igpit, Digos City.

The report said Colita was at a disco in relation to the village founding anniversary celebration when he was informed about the verbal tussle and commotion involving a couple just a few meters away.
Colita, together with Kagawad Ronelo Awe went to the place where they tried to pacify the situation. However, the drunken carpenter fired a handgun hitting Colita in the back causing his instantaneous death.
Police investigators found that the wife refused to go home with her husband and prefer to stay at the house of a female village councilor since he was already reeking with liquor which sparked the verbal tussle.
Elements of the Forensic Unit in Davao del Sur scoured the crime scene to look for material evidence and they found one fired cartridge of .45 caliber pistol ammunition.
Digos police operatives launched a pursuit operation to arrest Frande who fled after shooting the village councilor.
