THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Misamis Oriental, through its Committee on Finance, Budget, and Appropriation chaired by Provincial Board Member Wayne Militante, is still tackling the proposed budget for the next calendar year 2023 amounting to P4,326,583,067.
The proposed budget for next year under the administration of Governor Peter M. Unabia has a 2.32-percent increase as compared to this year’s budget of P4,228,432,242.15, bared Militante.
He said the P4.3 billion proposed budget is sourced from the following: Local Source of P694,042,520, National Tax Allotment of P2,089,327,752, and other receipts amounting to P1,543,212,795.
Board Member Rey Buhisan, a committee member, said over a phone interview, the Department of Budget and Management has slashed the NTA shares to all provinces across the country by 15 percent because of the pandemic.
“The DBM has gutted Misamis Oriental’s NTA share amounting to more than P400 million,” Buhisan said.
But the said slashed amount will not affect the operational expenses of the province, added Buhisan.
“Tarungon lang ang pag gamit sa kwarta, enough na ang budget,” said Buhisan.
However, Buhisan said the administration of Unabia has to focus on increasing the Capitol’s local sources and increase its local revenues.
One of its plans is to increase the revenue collection of the quarry operations in the province, he added.
