GINGOOG City -- Mayor Erick Cañosa has imposed one-meter social distancing in all business establishments, government and private offices, and public transportation in this city.
In a press briefing Monday, Cañosa said the one-meter distancing order is in the city's guideline no.3 for the purpose of preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus disease 2019.
Cañosa said the order would be implemented "strictly" as the city's first line of defense against the spread of Covid-19. The local guidelines, which Cañosa signed on Monday, also included the imposition of curfew hours for all ages and the establishment of health checkpoints at the city's points of entry.
The local guideline is the first order issued by the Gingoog City Covid-19 Task Force headed by Cañosa.
The 24-hour health checkpoints started on March 17 requiring all motorists, passengers, drivers, conductors, others to a body monitor using thermal scanners.
Cañosa said there is a need to impose social distancing since the infection of Covid-19 has been increasing nationwide and has claimed 12 lives.
"However, Gingoog still has of no person under investigation as of the moment and we are thankful for that," said Mayor Cañosa.
Dr. Agnes Centino, assistant city health officer and City Covid-19 Taskforce Unified Commander, said the city has 148 people under monitoring (PUM).
"Nagdaghan atong PUM tungod sa suporta ug koordinasyon sa atong kabarangayan," Cañosa said.
Cañosa urged the residents to report to the task force if they have friends or relatives who arrived in the city, especially those who came from Manila and countries with confirmed Covid-19 contagion.
"Food chains in the city and even buses are already doing one-meter social distancing," said Cañosa.
