DAYS before the election, congressional candidate Paul Rodriguez denounced the spread of fake news on social media and online platforms, particularly allegations regarding unsettled debts and questions about his eligibility.
In a statement yesterday, May 5, Rodriguez clarified that he has elevated his case to the Supreme Court and presented sufficient proof of his residency.
This comes after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc ordered his disqualification.
Rodriguez described the allegations as part of a smear campaign intended to derail his candidacy.
“I am still an official candidate. We are actively campaigning, and we will continue this fight while awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision,” Rodriguez said.
With just a week left before the elections, Rodriguez has continued his campaign efforts, focusing on support for farmers, fisherfolk, indigenous groups, and marginalized communities.
Rodriguez is a businessman and a well-known figure in the shipping industry.
