By Ben Serrano, Correspondent BUTUAN City — The oldest media organization in Caraga region, the Butuan Press Club endorsed former three–termer Butuan City Rep. Charito Plaza for any cabinet position that fits the former solon’s qualifications especially in her 11 years at the House of Representatives. Plaza is a former chairperson of the House Committee of National Defense, vice chairperson on Tourism, Local Government, and used to be a member of various committees like Commission on Appointments, health, information and ways and means. In the Butuan Press Club resolution, group members and officers resolved that Plaza’s pro-people, anti-corruption and pro-equitable justice stance augurs well with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign slogan “change is coming.” Recently, Plaza is co-founding leader and chairperson together with Dr. Potenciano Malvar of Butuan Water Rights Association (Bawra) which seeks sustainable clean potable but corruption-free and monopoly-free water supply of the city and protection of the water source areas declared as protected watershed. Butuan Press Club president Consolador Mantilla, PhD said Plaza’s holding of hierarchy position at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) being graduate of Master of National Security Administration at the National Defense College, graduate of Doctor of Philosophy at Harvard University and Melbourne University in Australia can help the incoming Duterte administration for a better, reformed and productive country. The entire BPC membership endorsed Plaza not for any reasons but also to represent 200,000 registered voters of Butuan City and one million voters of Caraga Region a voice of the new cabinet of the incoming Duterte administration as it charts the course of change.
