BUTUAN City--Still unidentified men shot and killed a barangay chairman in front of his friends in Babag here on Wednesday night.
Police said the victim, 50-year old Angelo Atupan, of P1, Barangay Babag, this city, was shot six times while he was in a drinking spree with friends at around 8:45 pm.
Atupan was the same barangay chairman who was accused of violating the election gun ban and illegal possession of firearm after he made a scene during a campaign rally here early this year. He was out on bail.
PO2 Angeline Dollisen and PO3 Anthony Echin said he was with friends and neighbors at the balcony of his home when a man disembarked from a motorcycle, yelled “Dia ra,” and then shot Atupan several times.
Another man from another motorycyle came and fired more shots in an effort to finish the barangay chairman off.
The victim was rushed to the Manuel J. Santos Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Nelson Obenita.
Police said five empty shells from caliber .45 pistols were found at the crime scene.
